Flesh and Soul by Kate Marie Robbins
Flesh & Soul
Kate Marie Robbins
This story is dedicated to Craig Owens, for inspiring me to write this story through his music. I couldn’t have done it without him.
When I awoke in my dark, dismal flat, sunlight was trying to shine in through the dirt smeared windows. I swung my feet over the side of the bed and stepped onto the cold concrete floor. As I inhaled, the smell of blood and sweat filled my lungs. It was intoxicating. I sat there, on the edge of the bed, letting the memories of last night wash over me. What a wonderful feeling it was to relive them again. I stood up after several minutes, knowing I needed to clean the dried blood off my body. But I couldn’t. Not yet. Just a few more minutes, I told myself, as I ambled into the kitchen. I needed food. I needed sustenance. I still had so much I needed to do. Opening the refrigerator, I looked for something to eat, but it was bare, aside from the six-pack of beer.

Add a comment3 Elements That Make Your Marketing Campaign Successful
At what time was the last time you bought a car? Is it a PREREQUISITE to own a car? I mean REALLY must own a car? Odds are the clunker you perceive is worthless, was still in good condition when you accepted the car you have now. Yep as you know it, Americans seldom purchase because they need something... they accept this reasoning because they want to experience the feeling that comes with buying.
We relish the feeling we get when we make new-fangled purchases. Sure, we can persuade ourselves that we really required a new one, but if we are very honest, we will have to admit that we could have gotten by without it. What does this mean to your advertising campaign?
1. State The Benefits Of Your Merchandise or Service
Make the most of the ways a customer will improve his régime by making the acquisition. Will he increase his own industry earnings by 50 percent? Say so in the opening statement of your sales letter, or at the top of your Web page.
Do not consume yourself with the features of the product itself or your reliability. Honestly, customers could care less. Let us face the facts... they are a bit egotistical when it comes to dishing out their hard earned money. Altogether, they hunger to realize what is in it for them.
2. Decorate a Word Portrait That Lets Them Experience the Benefits
"Awaken tomorrow, with no single person over you! You can spend the day with your family or on the golf course... there's not one individual to tell you what to do."
A Multi-Level Marketer may need his spectators to feel the independence of having no one to answer to if they become fruitful in the business. He will exaggerate that craving, and put the listener in the seat to motivate it to yield embrace until the listener is ready to sign up, and get underway.
3. Stimulate Instant Action
Hey, let us look at the facts... the longer a client dawdles, the better the chances he will never take the dive. Do not let him off the catch that easily!
Set a goal and deadline. Put on the weight to buy now, or miss the deal. Odds are pretty good that the procrastinator will get with it just to save a little cash.
What about your sales resources? Have you taken a decent look at the things you are marketing? Make sure you are fixated on the remunerations the consumer will experience from the acquisition, and not on the features of the creation or package.

The Follies of New Zealand Elementary Education
It's 8:26 AM - Many of you whom live around the Caversham/South Dunedin area have been awake for sometime already, getting ready for work and getting your children ready for school. Except for those Parents and kids who go to Carisbrook School. They don't start until Feb 7th, over one week after 90% of Dunedin has been back in school. You see, this has to do with National Government's "excuse" for "Merging Schools" - a factor that John Key beleives that will save the country money. Taking in the end two campuses of merged schools down from six locations or more - making it now Bathgate School and Carisrbook School. You see, before this mess started College St's roll count was up before the merger, they even expanded their campus to take in more kids. Now we are looking at the fact that Parents are reported to be leaving these schools in droves, some parents going all the way as far as Arthur or George St Schools on the northern end of the city.
Here's the funny part, here is where you will laugh the hardest.
Carisbrook MAIN - formerly Caversham School by Surrey St here in Caversham; has been slotted since 2012 for a REDEVELOPMENT of up to 5.6 Million dollars. We have children who can't read at their age level, spelling is abhorrent in New Zealand - and worse off the main location is full of future convicts because the teachers say they can't do anything to control the bullying. This redevelopment was planned not by the DCC, but the government. They've been sitting since NOVEMBER 2012 saying "Oh we'll be finished by Feb 2013.. no problems!" - telling us that College St will finally merge in 2013 to form first stage of the final merger.
I watched.
I waited.
Before christmas nothing really was done, a few things like the basketball hoops were removed during the end of the school year which ended on Dec 19th, a few more things like stairwells on the building they're refurbishing were removed. End of the school year came and until mid January they did nothing else, a few diggers etc - but nothing much. Signs can be seen around the construction area leading to "Amalgamated Builders" - but it's not just their problem. They've contracted Fulton Hogan to do the work of digging, pounding poles - and all the grunt work. They pretty much sat for almost 6 weeks doing nothing.
It's now Jan 30th 2013.
8:34 AM .
Jan 29th was last night, and at 6pm they were pounding poles until a meager 7pm. New Zealanders far and wide just roll eyes and go "She'll be right mate" - but many households have complained straight to the two companies involved.
This morning, our household which i regret to inform you is near the school (But for privacy reasons i'm not telling you what house it is :P) we were all woken up before 8 am to the sound of pounding poles. Irregularities in this area are frustrating - it's a residential area, and this isn't some road construction thing where they warn you that we'll have construction up until 6pm. We were never given warning about how LOUD this project was going to be. Nor told how much money is beind wasted when a few more training programs can be done for Teachers in the area to bring the education skills to a better service to the kids.
You would assume, (as i make an ass out of U AND ME lol.) that construction would mainly be between 8 and 5 - sometimes closer to 9 AM. We've looked this information up on the City Council website, and beleive it or not the ass has been made out of you and me. Dunedin City Council, Wellington City Council all say 7:30 - 6PM - allowing to start bringing in truckloads at 6:30am. We're in a high residential area and have been constantly wondering why nothing is done between 9am and 4pm.. but between 7:30 and 8:30, and 5:30 and 6pm - why are we suffering while they sit on a smoke break?
This merger is a debaucle on so many levels.
5.6 million dollars is a travesty for money wasted - It seems that parents voted but the govenment didn't listen.
What is your stance on this issue?

New Zealand Tertiary Education Debate
In light of the fact that I, myself am now 30 and returning to Tertiary Education in New Zealand - I've noticed the new cuts to education via the National Government. I entice you to discuss this via comments, or in the forums about this if you are in ANY country. New Zealand by far is one of few countries to have tested 'Socialism' in it's various forms, public this - public that. They have "FREE HEALTHCARE" (Yet i pay 40 dollars per appointment to see my GP, and pay 8 dollars a script for my medication.), and they previously in the 20th Century had "FREE TERTIARY EDUCATION".
My argument is this: To those who are already well into their later part of life, past 35 - and do not want a large bill on their tab, why not allow for scolarships, grants etc - work for your application, apply for something to aid your education. So your bill becomes shorter, or near to 0. To those who are working towards post GRADUATE education - Are you solid in your career descisions in this Economy? Despite John Key's efforts to stimy your work, are you sure this is what you want to do the rest of your life, can you find a job in this field when you are finished?
My experience to back said argument up: I'm 30, and am from the USA - I understand what US university education is as I attended for a short time at Art Instistutes International MN. A corporate Art School whom "tricks" according to some reports, students into chosing 2nd tier loan system and being told they're getting government assistance. We have paid for our education for over 100 years; why change now? We work for our education, and we decide on a career regardless. Do you think we deny based on age? Heck no.
Moving back to NZ and seeing people beleive that a tax cut reversal in this day and age is the BE all and end all to everything - makes me laugh. It won't work in the USA, as much as i beleive that tax cuts - reversing the ones we give to the rich will AID our economy, it will - but not in the way you think. In a country that survives on a surplus, funds will probably be missapropriated and given back to the rich which fund the National Party regardless. They're a "Quasi Republican" party who know nothing about keeping our earth clean, and have ties with policies that are largely close enough to the Tea Party in the USA.
What is wrong with having FREE EDUCATION?
What does it look like on your resume to have a name that says The Very Dr. Jim Bloggs PHD MM ESD BA BSC ASA BTHEO LL ?
Are we over privelged in a society with such socialism, to be able to over educate, and become McDonalds Managers the rest of our lives?
Should we not be given the opportunity to allow people who are UNDER priveleged to study more? In a more practical environment if it suits them? (IE: Someone like me who struggled through several years of college / university due to ADHD and other problems. Someone who pays just as much tax as someone with that many letters behind their name.)
What has this world come to, economies world wide need help and we're being selfish beleiving we can take all the money and give it to "STUDENTS" who use it on booze, drugs and other needless things. (Such as star wars legos, Blu Ray DVD players or in my case, Anime and Candy.) - You can't tell me I deserve not to be denied for some of my stupidity - the years i fluffed around not because of my ADHD, i should have been verbally flogged.
I URGE you to find this blog post, and comment on your feelings - your statistics to back up how wrong I Could be! (And i may be, this is an opinion based blog, it does not mean i am correct.)
I also urge a discussion in the forums more on how we could combat this priveleges issue for an economy that doesn't like supporting over 35 y/o's in work.
